Ultimate freedom for creative portraiture
The FE 85mm F1.4 GM II features Sony's latest lens technology, following the acclaimed FE 85mm F1.4 GM with equally stunning bokeh and higher resolution even at F1.4. It offers full AF performance with a™-series bodies and is remarkably compact and lightweight. The perfect G Master™ portrait lens for maximum agility and creative control.
Even sharper[FN|Compared to the FE 85mm F1.4 GM] with gorgeous bokeh
2 XA (extreme aspherical) elements achieve eye-opening resolution right out to the image edges, while 2 ED (extra-low dispersion) glass elements minimise chromatic aberration. Sony's Nano AR Coating II suppresses flare and ghosting for outstanding resolution and clarity. Minimum focus distance is 0.85 m (2.79ft) (AF)/0.8 m (2.63ft) (MF).
Smoother bokeh transitions[FN|Compared to the FE 85mm F1.4 GM]
The acclaimed performance of the previous model[FN|FE 85mm F1.4 GM] is enhanced by new optics that control chromatic aberration for more natural bokeh. An 11-blade circular aperture helps too, while precisely controlled spherical aberration and XA (extreme aspherical) elements reduce onion-ring bokeh for smooth transitions from sharp focus to deep F1.4 bokeh.
Top AF performance with a-series bodies
2 XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors and high-speed control give the FE 85mm F1.4 GM II up to 3x faster[FN|When used on the a1. Compared to the FE 85mm F1.4 GM. Sony tests.] AF speed. Moving subject tracking is improved by as much as 7x[FN|When used on the a9 III. Compared to the FE 85mm F1.4 GM. Sony tests.], for reliable capture even when using narrow depth of field at F1.4. The 120 fps[FN|Maximum continuous shooting speed may be lower in some conditions. Continuous shooting speed may vary depending on the lens used in the AF-C focus mode. Refer to Sony’s lens compatibility support page for details.] capability of the a9 III with its global shutter is fully supported.
20%[FN|Approx. Compared to the FE 85mm F1.4 GM. Sony tests.] less mass, stunning images
First-class bokeh and resolution in a compact lens. XA (extreme aspherical) elements, refined optics, XD (extreme dynamic) motors, and a circular aperture unit achieve superb large-aperture performance in an 84.7 (3-3/8 inch) x 107.3 mm (4-1/4 inch) lens that weighs only 642 g (22.7 oz.). 13%[FN|Approx. Compared to the FE 85mm F1.4 GM. Sony tests.] less volume and 20%[FN|Approx. Compared to the FE 85mm F1.4 GM. Sony tests.] less mass for agile shooting.
An ideal 85mm F1.4 lens for filmmaking
The FE 85mm F1.4 GM II is ideal for filming people. It works with Real-time Recognition AF in a-series bodies, for fast, precise, quiet subject tracking that maintains sharp focus even at F1.4. Focus breathing is minimal, and body breathing compensation is supported[FN|See camera compatibility info at:https://www.sony.net/dics/breathing/ Angle of view and image quality may change slightly when this function is [ON]. Effective compensation may not be achieved in all situations.]. Click-less aperture ring operation and Linear Response MF allow smooth, intuitive control.
